SASSA Status Check – SRD R370 | Payment dates

SASSA Status Check 2026: SRD R370 Results, Pay Days and Appeals

Quick answer: To check your SASSA status, go to srd.sassa.gov.za, choose the application status option and enter your 13-digit South African ID number plus the cellphone number linked to your SRD application. You will see an outcome for every month (Approved, Pending or Declined) and, once your money is scheduled, your exact payment date. It is free and takes about two minutes.

Every month, more than eight million people wait for the same answer: has my R370 been approved? The screen can be confusing, the portal slows to a crawl in pay week, and one word like “Declined” can leave you unsure what to do next. This guide shows you every official way to check the status of your SRD grant in 2026, explains what each outcome means, lists this year’s pay windows and walks you through challenging a decision you believe is wrong.

What Is the SRD R370?

The Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant, usually called the SRD or simply “the R370”, is a temporary monthly payment for unemployed adults with little or no income. It is administered by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and funded by the South African government through National Treasury. It began in May 2020 as a pandemic measure and has been extended every year since.

In the February Budget, the Minister of Finance allocated a further R36.4 billion, which keeps the SRD R370 grant running at R370 a month until 31 March 2027. The amount has not gone up this year, even though the permanent grants received their usual April increase.

Who qualifies

  • You are 18 to 59 years old and live in South Africa.
  • You are one of the South African citizens, permanent residents or refugees registered with Home Affairs, a special permit holder, or an asylum seeker with a valid permit or visa.
  • The money entering your bank account in the tested month is below R624.
  • You receive no other social grant for yourself, no UIF benefit and no NSFAS allowance.
  • You do not live in a state-funded institution such as a correctional facility.

Approval is never permanent. Every month SASSA performs a fresh means test against bank, SARS, UIF and Home Affairs records. That is why one month can be approved and the next declined, even when your life looks exactly the same on paper.

What You Need Before You Check

  • Your South African ID document, or the ID number printed on it. Green book and smart card numbers both work.
  • The phone registered on your SRD grant application. The one-time PIN (OTP) is only ever sent to that number.
  • Data or airtime, depending on the channel you choose.
  • The official web address, typed by hand. Never open the portal from an SMS or social media link.

How to Check Your SRD Status Online

The portal gives you the most detail, including the reason behind each monthly decision. Follow these five steps:

  1. Use the official SASSA SRD website. Type srd.sassa.gov.za into your browser yourself.
  2. Open the status page. Tap “Application Status” on the home screen. The form has only two fields.
  3. Enter your 13-digit ID number with no spaces.
  4. Enter the phone number linked to your application in 10-digit format, for example 07X XXX XXXX.
  5. Tap Submit and read each panel. Every month has its own panel with an outcome, a short reason and, once released, a pay date.

Tip: The portal is slowest from about the 20th to the end of the month, when millions of people log in at once. Early mornings before 08:00 are the fastest time to check. If the page hangs, wait a few minutes instead of refreshing repeatedly, because rapid refreshes can trigger a “too many requests” block.

Other Official Ways to Check

No data, or the website will not load? These channels all read from the same system, so the result you get is identical.

ChannelHow it worksData neededBest for
WhatsApp 082 046 8553Save the number, send “Hi”, open the SRD menu and confirm with the OTP sent by SMSVery littleQuick checks when the portal is slow
USSD *134*7737#Dial the code and follow the SRD promptsNoneBasic phones (some networks currently reply “service code not supported”)
Toll-free 0800 60 10 11Call on weekdays, 08:00 to 16:00, and choose the SRD option to speak to an agentNoneHaving a decline reason explained
Local officeBring your ID and, if possible, your old SIM cardNoneLost numbers, OTP and identity problems

Every self-service channel depends on the OTP. If you have lost the mobile number you applied with, you cannot unlock your record remotely. Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID so an official can verify you and update your details.

Checking for a family member

You can check their SASSA result for an elderly parent or relative, but only with their permission. You will need their ID, their registered phone and the OTP they receive. Checking without consent is a breach of their privacy.

What Your Result Means

Your grant status is decided month by month, so always read the panel for the specific month you are asking about, not just the first line on the screen.

ResultWhat it meansWhat to do
ApprovedYou passed that month’s means test and payment will follow in the batch runCheck back for a date
Approved with a dateYour money is scheduled for that dayCheck your bank or collect from that date
PendingThe month has not been assessed yet, usually because verification is still runningWait and check again after the 20th
DeclinedYou failed one of the monthly checks; the reason appears next to the monthRead the reason and appeal within 90 days if it is wrong
Bank details pendingNo verified account, or the account name does not match your IDUpdate your banking information on the portal
CancelledThe application was closed, either by you or by the agencyReapply only if you still qualify

Common reasons an application was declined

  • Alternative income source identified: more than R624 reached your account, even if it was a once-off gift or loan.
  • Identity verification failed: your details did not match Home Affairs records, or the selfie check was not completed.
  • Existing grant: your ID is already linked to another grant paid to you.
  • Unemployment insurance registered: you were recently employed or claimed benefits.
  • NSFAS registered: you are listed as receiving student funding.
  • Age outside the range: you turned 60, or were under 18, in the tested month.
  • Government payroll: your ID appears on a state salary system.

The reason matters, because it tells you exactly what evidence you will need if you decide to appeal.

SRD Pay Windows for 2026

Unlike the permanent grants, the SRD payment does not land on one fixed day. It goes out in batches, usually in the last week of the month, once verification is complete. Here is every payment window announced so far this year:

MonthPay windowNotes
January23 to 28 JanuaryPaid
February20 to 25 FebruaryPaid
MarchNo single window publishedPaid in staggered batches
April23 to 24 and 29 to 30 AprilPaid in two rounds
May21 to 22 and 27 to 28 MayPaid in two rounds
June24 to 25 JunePaid
July23 to 24 JulyPaid
August24 to 26 AugustPaid (Women’s Day fell on Sunday, 9 August 2026, so the holiday moved to Monday 10 August, well before the window)
September23 and 25 SeptemberPaid (no batches on 24 September, Heritage Day)
OctoberLast week of the monthAwaiting confirmation; widely expected around 26 to 30 October

Your personal pay day depends on your batch and only appears on your own result once that month is approved. The windows above show when batches run, not the day you will be paid. If a date is not on your result, it has not been confirmed for you, so ignore forwarded posters on WhatsApp and Facebook.

SASSA Payment Date Calendar for Other Grants

If someone in your household also receives SASSA grants such as the Older Persons, Disability or Child Support grant, those follow a fixed, early-month payment dates schedule approved by National Treasury for the current financial year:

MonthOlder PersonsDisabilityChildren’s grantsExceptions
October2 Oct5 Oct6 Oct7 Oct
November3 Nov4 Nov5 Nov6 Nov
December2 Dec3 Dec4 Dec7 Dec
January 20275 Jan6 Jan7 Jan8 Jan
February 20272 Feb3 Feb4 Feb5 Feb

The exceptions day covers payments that failed on the main date and grants flagged for review. If you only receive the SRD, you can ignore this table and rely on your own result.

Approved but No Money Yet?

An Approved result means your month passed the checks. It does not mean the money has already moved. Work through this checklist before you worry:

  1. Let the window close. Allow two working days after the last batch day before treating the money as missing.
  2. Check your banking information. The account must be open, active and in your own name, matching your ID exactly. Dormant or closed accounts reject the transfer.
  3. Confirm your payment method. If you chose cash collection, the funds are only available once the SMS with your reference arrives.
  4. Look for a date on that month’s panel. No date usually means your batch has not run yet.
  5. Contact SASSA if nothing moves after a week. Use WhatsApp or the toll-free line and ask for a payment trace, with your ID and the month ready.

Keep Your Details Up to Date

Most missed months come down to outdated details. Keeping your SASSA profile accurate is the simplest way to protect your payment:

  • New bank account: on the portal, choose the option to change bank details, enter the new account and confirm with the OTP. The account holder name must match your ID.
  • New phone: the change needs an OTP sent to your old number. If that number is lost or blocked, you will have to sort it out at a SASSA office in person.
  • Payment method: you can switch between bank and cash collection online, but changes made during pay week may only apply from the following month.

Declined? How to Appeal

You have the right to appeal the SASSA decision for any month you believe was wrongly declined. An SRD appeal is not decided by the agency itself. You lodge your appeal with the Department of Social Development online, and the case is heard by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals, set up under the Social Assistance Act. This route applies to anyone declined for any period from April 2022 onward.

The appeal process, step by step

It takes about ten minutes online:

  1. Go to srd.dsd.gov.za and open the appeals section.
  2. Enter your ID and the cellphone number you applied with, then type in the OTP.
  3. Choose the declined month and the reason shown on your result.
  4. Explain briefly why the decision is wrong. For example, a deposit counted as income was really a once-off transfer from a relative.
  5. Attach proof, such as a three-month bank statement, then submit an appeal and save your reference number.

Rules to remember

  • 90-day deadline: you must appeal within 90 days of the decline. Late appeals are not considered.
  • One month per appeal: winning your May appeal does not cover June.
  • 60 to 90 days for a decision: the Tribunal notifies you electronically.
  • Track it on the same site. If you win, the agency pays that month.
  • It is free. Anyone asking for a fee is a scammer.

Your future months keep being assessed while an appeal is running, so there is no need to stop checking.

Stay Safe From SRD Scams

Fraudsters target grant recipients every pay week. Protect yourself with four simple rules:

  • The agency never charges a fee to check, approve, reactivate or speed up an application.
  • Trust only web addresses ending in .gov.za and the WhatsApp line 082 046 8553.
  • Never share your OTP, bank PIN or banking password, including with “agents” in Facebook groups.
  • If your result shows an application you never made, report it on 0800 60 10 11 and open a case at your nearest police station.

When in doubt, use the SASSA website or helpline directly, never a link someone sends you.

Will the SRD Grant Continue?

For now, SASSA is still paying R370 every month, and active SRD beneficiaries do not need to reapply because of the extension. Government has said a redesigned form of income support for unemployed adults could follow once the current funding ends, but nothing has been finalised or signed into law. Until official details are published, treat any post claiming the grant has ended, doubled or changed its rules with caution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SASSA SRD status check free?

Yes. Checking on the portal, WhatsApp, USSD or the toll-free line costs nothing, although the website and WhatsApp use a small amount of data.

How often should I check my result?

Make it a monthly habit to check your SASSA SRD result around the 20th. Because eligibility is retested every month, a quick look shows whether that month was approved and whether a date has been set.

When does my result update each month?

New outcomes usually appear in the second half of the month, once income verification is complete. Pay days are added closer to the batch run in the final week.

Why is my SRD R370 status still Pending?

Pending means that month has not been assessed yet. Common causes include slow bank or Home Affairs verification, a recent change of details, or a system backlog. If a month stays Pending for more than 60 days, call 0800 60 10 11.

Is there an official SRD app?

No. Use the SRD portal, the WhatsApp line, USSD or the call centre. Any app or website that asks for your details outside a .gov.za address is not official.

Can I use WhatsApp if my mobile number has changed?

Not to access your record. The OTP goes to your registered number, so update it first on the portal or at an office.

What do I need to check your status on WhatsApp?

Your ID and the phone registered on your application, because the OTP arrives by SMS on that phone. You cannot use the WhatsApp line from a different number.

Is the R370 amount going up?

No increase has been announced. The grant stays at R370 a month for the full extension period.

What is the difference between Declined and Cancelled?

Declined applies to one month only, so you can still be approved the next month or win an appeal. Cancelled closes the application completely, and no further months are assessed until you apply again.

How We Checked This Guide

Every figure here was checked against official sources: agency and Department notices, the National Treasury Budget allocation, the annual grant calendar and the SRD appeals platform. Pay windows come from the monthly announcements, and any month without a single published window is marked as such rather than guessed. Last reviewed: 28 September 2026.
